Independent living is a philosophy of people with disabilities having self-determination, equal opportunities & acknowledgement.
In 2004 a group of parents approached SPD for directives to adhere to the philosophy of independence.
At the time, no blue print for such a project was available in South Africa, resulting in twinning with Het Dorp, Arnhem in the Netherlands.
In 2007 the first units were erected on the organizations premises & developed to presently being 11 units with 14 residents living totally independent.
Amongst them are state department employees, protective workshop workers, entrepreneurs & volunteers.
